20 YEAR OLD STUDENT LEAVES TAMPON IN FOR 9 DAYS AND NEARLY DIES

A 20 year old student ended up in the hospital after forgetting to remove a 9 day old tampon, she said she was stressed about her exams and had inserted another tampon without removing the one she had inside her. She fell ill and blamed her sickness on the stress of her exams failing to realise that she was suffering from toxic shock syndrome, which is a life threatening bacterial infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria.

She said when she finally realised and pulled it out it was pitch black, coated with bacteria and she wouldn't have recognised it if not for the string. She was rushed to Maidstone hospital in Kent when she became weak and her words slurred,

In an interview she stated 'I put my illness down to stress and ignored the symptoms, but mum knew it was something more and pushed me to feel better, she saved my life'
